The Dusty Shed

The Dusty Shed was very fortunate to receive a grant from the 1910 Trust to allow it to tackle some important health and safety issues needed within the Shed’s workshop alongside the Dusty Forge in Ely, Cardiff.

Professional advice was obtained and new wiring and kill switches installed along with a micro dust extraction system. Additional internal power points were installed and an external waterproof power point was also added. These significantly reduced the use of extension cables and so added safety by avoiding trip hazards. Repositioning of some equipment and a re-organisation of the Shed has also contributed to the overall safety of the workspaces.

We were able to undertake a through safety inspection of all our existing equipment and to upgrade, or purchase new machinery as necessary. This has enabled the volunteers to make new and different items that we hope will generate a sales income for further investment in tools and equipment.

“The grant has allowed massive improvements to the working environment for all our volunteers.”
